I had wanted to purchase the same style Johnston & Murphy shoe I had before which was discontinued, and this model was the closest to what I had.In the past, with some other brands I have needed to get a EEE because my feet are wide, but most often, a 12D works. I've been wearing size 12M Johnston & Murphy shoes for years now, and up till now have never had a problem. This particular model is noticeably tighter than any other J&M 12D shoe I have owned. Even getting the shoes on required the use of a shoe horn, and I had to spend over a week wearing it with some pain to "break it in", something I've not experienced with other J&M shoes with the same size. During that time I wondered if I had made a mistake and if it was worth it. The problem was not as noticeable while walking in them, but definitely in getting them on or if I was sitting down for a while. When I took them off my feet showed marks in the problem areas. I suppose it could just be me and my feet, but the left shoe was definitely a tighter fit than the right. Again, I have worn J&M 12D shoes for years and not experienced that.Now that a couple of weeks have passed, the shoes are fully broken in, and I am finally enjoying them. They're still a bit of a struggle to get on, but they feel good, and are especially comfortable for walking. Too bad these don't come in a wide version as I believe that would be a solution for me. If I buy these again, I will see if I can find a brick and mortar store where I can try them on first and consider getting the next size up.The quality of the full grain oiled leather and materials is excellent as usual. The tennis shoe style sole is very comfortable. The style can be worn with suits or jeans, dressed up or down, which is what I wanted. I appreciate that the sole is not completely white like a tennis shoe. I do not like the dress shoes with the stark white tennis shoe sole as those look out of place in a dress up setting. With a less contrasting sole, this one is more balanced, eye pleasing and versatile.
