I bought this book hoping to better know how the ships of the Age of Discovery differed from previous designs. The book beginning with Archimedes was for me very encouraging. However, they leaped from 200 BC to 1550 AD without a single intervening discussion of ship design. I should have read others' reviews more carefully! It may have limited value as a biography of post-1650 ship designers.
